Aerospace Translation
Aerospace translation is a very skilled field of translation
that deals with the science of manufacturing airplanes.
Aerospace technology is the technology that constitutes of
aerodynamics, material science and electronic controls.
Aerodynamics is the technology that deals with the study of
various types of pressures exerting on an airplane during its
flight from ground to higher skies and during landing back on
the ground.
The various pressures include atmospheric pressure, internal
pressure of the airplane and effect of temperature variations.
Based on the calculations of the resultant force acting on the
airplane in various situations the shape and material for
manufacturing it are decided by the engineers. The translator
serving aerospace translation has to understand the minutest
details in aerodynamics apart from possessing linguistic skills.
The second part of aerospace technology is the study of material
science of the raw material to be used for making an airplane.
The calculation of resultant pressure on the airplane, the
temperature variations on ground in various locations and at
high skies makes it necessary for engineers to study the tensile
strength, flexibility, malleability and other such physical
parameters of the metals to be used for manufacturing the
airplanes.
The material science is comparatively easier to understand but
still for translating information of this science the translator
should have at least basic knowledge of the subject.
The next part that constitutes the controlling, communication
and positioning system is electronic and telecommunication
technology. The various controls in an airplane are
sophisticated electronic controls that help the pilot for easy
operation of the airplane. The telecommunication systems that
are in an airplane operate on a special dedicated band of
frequency that is allotted by the government department of that
specific country. This telecommunication system helps a pilot to
stay connected with the airport base depending on the aerial
boundaries in which the airplane is flying at a specific moment.
The global positioning system helps a pilot to direct a plane in
specific direction to reach the desired location. It also gives
information about the aerial boundaries of various countries so
that the pilot does not enter aerial boundaries of the country
where the entry of the airplane from a specific country might be
banned. Thus a translator in the aerospace translation field
needs to know the three sub branches of aerospace technology as
described above so that the translation done would be of optimum
accuracy.
Aerospace technology is highly developed mostly in English
speaking countries and most of the technical jargon is in
English language as the technology terms in other languages are
not updated at the speed of the developments in the technology.
Thus mostly aerospace translation source text is mostly in
English language that needs to be translated in other native
languages.
