Latest features
in FrameMaker multilingual desktop publishing
Being one of the first DTP programs, latest versions of FrameMaker
provides improved handling of single-source for converting into
other formats and better support for rich media and Unicode.
Although FrameMaker was earlier a more traditional program that
boosted productivity of longer technical documents, today with its
latest version FrameMaker 8.0 Adobe has introduced many changes that
will make multilingual desktop publishing a much easier task.
FrameMaker Multilingual desktop publishing supports language rules,
dictionary and hyphenation of US and British English, Estonian,
Italian, French, Canadian French, German, Latvian, Spanish,
Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Greek,
Turkish, Russian, Czech, Polish, Slovak, Bulgarian, Hungarian,
Croatian, Lithuanian and Romanian. Support is extended for Japanese,
Korean and Chinese, however without dictionaries.
The new support for Unicode allows a user to create and later save
Unicode content in PDF, HTML and XML formats. You can also import
and convert non-Unicode matter. It is also possible to use the
relevant language dictionary, thesaurus and spelling checker for
Unicode content. You can generate table of contents, indexes and
reports using FrameMaker Unicode features. This allows creation of
templates for different languages. FrameMaker supports automatic
language detection through the spell-check function. You can sort
indexes and tables in different languages and also copy content from
other Unicode compliant applications.
Text handling is central to FrameMaker and the new support for
importing Microsoft Word and Excel (2007) makes authoring documents
a better and efficient task. The new version of FrameMaker
introduces Unicode support for all internal, export and import
processing. New international dictionaries make multilingual desktop
publishing much simpler.
Edits can be easily tracked and it is possible to jump from one edit
to another as you go. FrameMaker can impressively handle multiple
versions of a single document like for instance translations. Its
latest version comes with new color coding capabilities and manage
condition tag dialog.
FrameMaker comes into its best when repurposing of highly structured
and long documents is required as it provides a dedicated work
environment with added power. XML handling is improved with the
ability to save comments and processing instructions and you can
also import CSS files for formatting purposes. HTTP file support
allows images to be held on the server. FrameMaker also supports
Flash files and 3D that don’t seem very effective while working on
the document however, when viewed in Adobe Reader it serves the
purpose making the document engaging and appealing.
