Multilingual Translation
In the new millennium the businesses have got Internationalized
either due to saturation of local markets or for fulfilling
their ambitions. This effect of industrial globalization has
mainly got a boost due to efforts of World Trade Organization
(WTO). With this change in style of doing business the various
types of businesses have generated a tremendous requirement of
multilingual translation.
This is so because though English is the most commonly used
universal language there are several locations where the local
languages have strong domination and are only preferred by the
local public. This is the case in West as well as East. Like if
English is highest spoken language, Spanish ranks second highest
spoken language in the World.
There are other European countries like France, Germany who have
their own local language and any foreign corporate that needs to
business in these need information translated to and from the
local language to English or other language. This is the same
situation in the East. Countries like China, Japan, Korea,
Taiwan etc prefer their local language to English for day-to-day
business. Also there is awareness of English language only to a
minor extent. This creates a room for multilingual translation.
The translators today providing multilingual translation not
only need to provide services in multiple languages but also
need to understand who the target user for whom the translation
work is being done for. This could be explained clearly with an
example of say Spanish language translation. The Spanish
language spoken or used in Latin America is different than that
in European Countries. The same is the case with Chinese
language. The Chinese language written in Mainland China is
different than that in Singapore. Hence a translator who is into
multilingual translation needs to understand these differences
clearly before doing the respective translation work.
The next challenge in multilingual translation is the different
types of certification required by clients. The translator
working in the legal field needs to be certified with the State
Court in US or needs to be certified with Judicial Councils in
various other countries.
If the translator is providing translation service in legal
field in UK than during every case the translator has to take an
oath in front of authorized officials or solicitors. The
translator also needs to give a statement in writing saying that
the concerned translation is accurate and complete as compared
to source document. After completing this formality the
translator can submit the translated work in courts of UK.
In some cases clients expect the translator to have an
internationally accepted certifications like ISO certification
for allotting translation work.
The modern translator providing multilingual translation also
needs to have a specialization in subjects along with
professionalism. Like a translator working in technical
translation needs to have the technical know how of the
respective subject (for e.g. space technology, automobile
technology etc.) to serve clients in this specific field.
Though the new millennium has several challenges in multilingual
translation still it has opened up wide doors of opportunities
for translators.
